Biography

Anna Maranise was born and raised in Memphis, TN. She received her Master of Fine Arts in 3-D and Extended Media from the University of Arizona and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts from the University of Memphis. She is primarily a 3-D artist, working with a variety of materials including plastics, silicone, papier maché, wax, fiberglass, and foam. Her work is evocative of the body and the biological, using abstracted yet familiar forms to physically manifest emotional and psychological entities. By making ephemera such as traumas, thoughts, and ideas into tangible objects, she invites viewers to directly confront these hidden aspects of ourselves, the things that we have to live with, that get in our way, and direct our lives, even though they cannot be seen.
